Grown up goals

Sign that a person is maturing...dreaming about your own home. And also probably freaking out about whether you have enough pension someday but sticking to the fun stuff here.
I have to say that I'm a huge supporter of the Tiny House movement that seems to be all over Europe and the USA. Who needs a huge house? It just means more rooms to fill with stuff that we don't use or need and it means more cleaning needs to be done. I'm not a fan of cleaning.
Here are some delightfully cosy tiny homes that inspire me.

And finally, in celebration of this chilly Cape Town day...

Decor Ideas

Beds on the Floor

I'm in the process of redecorating and want to move into my spare room and make my current bedroom the room for visiting family and friends. So far I have painted the walls (what a pain!!!) and bought curtains, some picture frames and a bookcase. Now I need to buy another bed and this is where I am looking to stray from the norm just a little.

I've been seeing quite a few blogs recently that show a boho/ minimalist/ scandi look with the bed on the floor. There is something about this that I love. My reasons for this being a great idea for my home are the following:

1. I have a irrational fear of rolling off the bed in the middle of the night (it's happened to me, only once but still...)

2. The other thing that goes through my mind when I see the images is they all look so effortless and relaxed which is super important for me in terms of my bedroom. I love my bedroom and sleep, eat, watch series, read and just daydream there, especially in winter.

3. There is a camping child-like feel about this that suits me. The older I get, the less I want to grow up and go with the flow.

4. Makes me feel like a rebel, just a teeny weeny bit.

Those things we really want but never need...

Last year I was told about http://www.thisiswhyimbroke.com/ and I wasted so many hours on that website. These are my favorite things that I intensely WANT but will never get because I do't need them. (Apparently this is acting like a responsible adult)

I don't even have a pool but if I did ;)

One with nature without having to be in nature.

Once a princess, always a princess

I love anything to do with Biology so this seems like a must have.

Cause when I yell at other drivers, they never hear me.

Too cute.

This would be great at a braai :)

All the items above are from http://www.thisiswhyimbroke.com/

I have discovered http://superbalist.com/ recently and the website is causing the same problems for me as 'This is why I'm broke.com'

Below are my must haves.

And only R269! So reasonable for a walking, talking Dinosaur!

Bucketlist Scratch map, Genius!

Deluxe version as well

Evolution bookmarks, a conversation starter ;)

Hope everyone has a relaxing long weekend and stays safe.

Pretty things that are on my mind...

I've discovered a beautiful collection of clothes that seem made for me. Loose, soft and comfortable but smart enough for me to use in my workplace.. Designed by Emma Londgen, each piece is simple but still sophisticated. I also really like the idea that everything is manufactured in Cape Town. Take a look at the website : http://www.sittingpretty.co.za/ for some beautiful pieces. No prizes for guessing where I'll be spending my spare cash this winter ;)
Some of the pieces below are my favorites and ones I want to add to my wardrobe shortly.

I spotted these pendents on Etsy recently and can't get them out of my mind. They are from the UK and I have seen similar pendents in South Africa but there was something about this pug face that grabbed me.

Even one for cat lovers

Mr Price Home has some really beautiful and warm blankets as part of their Colab-Design Doing Good collection. The two image below are of my favourites.

Both are R499-99 and can be found in stores or online at http://www.mrphome.com/en_za/jump/COLLECTIONS//subcategory/cat920059/cat860014

Thanks for looking at my post :)

Exposed Cupboards

Something that I've been seeing in decor magazines and blogs are kitchens that have open shelving. At first when I saw these images, all I could think of was the many kitchens that I worked in as a teen and young adult before I started my degree. Slowly though, they have grown on me. Now I think it is a lovely way to display those delicate heirlooms that you got from your Great Aunt Martha or that pretty collection of Turkish glassware. If you have lovely things, then they should be displayed otherwise it is a complete waste of some fine china.  As I rent I can't really put these ideas into action but I can dream about my future home ;) Enjoy the images I've found that best show off this trend.

Dark shelves with contrasting crockery is quite striking.

Such a calm and serene kitchen with a muted palette and limited color range. Screams sophisticated and elegant.

I love this one, all the different colors and patterns are neatly placed next to each other and instead of clashing, they complement each other. Its probably more likely that people have mismatched crockery and glasses than all one color...

I really love this idea to make your kitchen an extension of your style. I'm not super keen on the wallpapers used above but I like the idea of using a print that peaks out from behind whatever you have in your cupboards. For those creative individuals, it's also possible to paint an image behind and make it truly unique.

Although I'd love to embrace a minimalist look, it's not something I'm able to maintain. The last three images above are simple and beautiful in their simplicity. They are a minimalist look that I could possibly achieve :)

And last stunning image:

Perfection!
